> General questions about Pickcel: what digital signage is, requirements, screen limits, scalability, pricing plans, supported browsers, support, and customization.

General questions about Pickcel and digital signage. For hardware specifics, see [Media Players & Hardware](/faqs/players-and-hardware).

### What is digital signage?

Digital signage uses digital screens and technologies like LCD, LED, and projection to display content such as images, videos, streaming media, and information. It has three core elements:

* **Hardware**: the physical parts such as screens, media players, smart TVs, and mounts.
* **Software**: the content management system (CMS) and cloud storage that manage what's on the screens.
* **Content**: what's shown, including images, videos, apps, social media, websites, and more.

You manage everything from anywhere using a desktop or laptop: log in to the CMS, add media, design a composition, and assign it to your screens.

### What is the Pickcel console?

The [**Pickcel console**](https://console.pickcel.com) is the web app you use to publish content to your signage screens. It has several modules; four of them form the complete publishing cycle:

* [**Screens**](/screen-registration/screen-registration): add and manage your displays.
* [**Media**](/media/add-media): upload images, videos, and PDFs, and manage apps.
* [**Compositions**](/compositions/compositions): design how your content is laid out on screen.
* [**Publish**](/schedule-and-publish/publish-overview): push [schedules](/schedule-and-publish/publish-v4), [Quick Plays](/schedule-and-publish/quick-play), and [default compositions](/schedule-and-publish/default-composition), and see what's currently assigned.
